I’m back on the road on 30th January, for my first college author workshop of 2017. This time I am visiting Ashton-under-Lyne to take two classes at Tameside College.
This author workshop is quite different…
Well, these will be more about teaching than just doing a talk. Every school and college I’ve visited before have been very much a ‘talk’.
This time I’ll be showing students how to:
- Come up with story ideas
- Start writing with a great first line hook, and
- How to build tension into a story.
Okay, I’ve covered these in my talks, so they are themes I’m used to talking about. This time, however, the students will be able to have a crack at writing on the day. I’m looking forward to chatting to them and seeing what great ideas they can come up with.
I can’t wait for it to be a more ‘interactive‘ class than a talk. My very first talk at Ridgeway High School in September 2016 had elements where the students got the chance to write some things down and it really helped creatively.
My author workshop has never been the same twice. It’s a different challenge, but one I am very much looking forward to.
